Mercadona Coconut Ice Cream

On our last trip to Mallorca, we followed a friend's tip to a sundowner spot right at the southern tip of the island – the kind of sunset you don't forget. On the way there, a quick stop at Mercadona, Spain's largest supermarket chain, for dips, crusty bread and a little jamón ibérico. Then one freezer discovery stopped us both: Mercadona coconut ice cream, served inside a real, halved coconut shell with toasted coconut on top, two halves per pack – built for sharing. We didn't expect this from a supermarket tub costing a couple of euros: light, fluffy, brutally intense coconut flavour. The sunset was the main event that evening – this ice cream quietly stole the show.
Ingredients for Mercadona Coconut Ice Cream
1 pack Hacendado "Cocos" coconut ice cream (Mercadona, Spain) – already contains 2 coconut-shell halves
1 shot hot espresso (optional, for the viral coffee hack)
Instructions for Mercadona Coconut Ice Cream
Take the pack out of the freezer and let it soften for 1 to 2 minutes.
Straight from a hard freeze the coconut flavour tastes muted – the short rest makes the difference.
Carefully open the packaging and expose both coconut-shell halves.
For the viral coffee hack, pour a hot espresso shot straight into the centre of the ice cream and serve immediately.
The contrast of ice-cold coconut and hot espresso turns it into an instant affogato – the trend of summer 2026 across TikTok and Instagram since July.
Without the hack, just spoon it straight from the shell – ideally with a sunset in view.
Résumé
Mercadona coconut ice cream is, for us, the taste of one particular evening in the south of Mallorca: a sundowner, jamón ibérico, and finally two coconut shells of ice cream we shared between us.
Why is this particular supermarket ice cream having a moment? Because it delivers three things at once: an unusual presentation, a price of around €2.50, and a viral coffee hack that turns a simple tub into a small event. For flexies, it's a conscious, occasional treat – not an everyday product, but exactly right for one special moment by the sea.
