Bake crispy spelt bread yourself - Vegan

Baking bread by myself? That was too far away for me for a long time. Going shopping, kneading dough and waiting; way too much effort. However, my buddy from university finally opened my eyes. We had a breakfast date and were going to study afterwards. Christopher J. invited us to his home and spontaneously baked up some bread. And I must say, I am extremely positively surprised. When I asked him about the preparation, I was thrilled. How you can bake your own vegan bread, I show you in today's post from food for flexitarians!

 

Ingredients

  • 500g spelt flour

  • 320-350 ml water

  • 12,5 g salt

  • 1tl sugar

  • 1 packet dry yeast

  • Grain mixture


Instructions

First we take care of the dough. For this we add all the ingredients in a relaxed way into the pot. Now you stir the dough and always fold in. For this I recommend rubber gloves, if I do not want sticky hands. If you have a mixer, this greatly simplifies the mixing.


Make sure that the dough is not sticky or mushy at the end. If necessary, add a little more flour or water.


The dough must then rest and rise. For the yeast to do its job, it needs heat. Put the pot for about 1 hour on the heater and put a kitchen towel on it. Alternatively, you can set the oven to 40 degrees C° or put the pot on the heated coffee machine (my favorite;)).


After 1 hour, put the dough into the mold. The form must be greased. I like to use olive oil. Of course, you can use any mold you like for baking. I like to use the cake pan, because you can cut nice slices from it. Add the grains mixture on top and again the kitchen towel.


In the form we let the dough again rest and rise. It is important to put the dough into the oven in time. If the dough stands too long, the bread will fall apart and will not rise. Therefore, a tip: after 20 min preheat the oven. Once the oven is hot, go for it!

Preheat the oven to 190 C° convection. Then put the bread in the oven and let it bake for about 1 hour until it is golden brown. It is better to check after 45 minutes. Sometimes the bread is ready earlier.

Small tip at the end. Melt some margarine and add a pinch of salt. With it you coat the bread and it gains a little more flavour!











Resumé

I am so convinced of the bread. It is extremely moist and lasts easily 2 days without becoming dry. If you are in the home office, the dough can be prepared relaxed alongside. And how the bread tastes, vegan with spelt, the madness. Try it out!
